anti-theft measures

Last day of class before winter break, the school day ends, decide to swing through the nearby supermarket to grab a box of brownie mix to make for xmas eve dinner - a quick five-minute excursion. first, the relative locations of the entry doors to the building and the entry-way to the supermarket force you to traverse the entire length of the building, passing by all of the cash-registers first - keep in mind that many of the assistants in the store wear rollerskates...
upon reaching the other end, i realized id have to check my backpack. they had a machine to seal your purse/bag in a plastic bag, but the attendant recommended that i put the backpack in a locker. the lockers, i come to learn, require a one-euro coin, which i dont have and she is unable to give me change for a 5-note. so to customer service i go and wait, third in line. phones are ringing, the one lady behind the desk is doing her best to keep up with everything. after a good ten-minute wait i am able to have her perform the 10-second transaction of giving change for paper money...so back to the locker room with a very negative state of mind and finally entering the store. initially i only had teh good intention of a quick purchase, now, however, after all the headache that was their anti-theft measures, the brownies were about the last thing on my mind - all i wanted to do was damage or steal something (or various somethings..). and of course the brownie mix is located back by the entry doors to the building, requiring me to hike all the way to the other end of the store another time..and, due to being in spain, theres not much of a brownie mix selection to speak of. cursing to myself in disbelief and in anger toward the store i see what is available. two options. one premixed. one showing brownies with nuts (less than ideal) but with no mention of nuts in the ingredients.. i went with the latter, which turned out to be very delicious, bordering on too-rich, but enjoyable nonetheless.
anyhow, i did manage to exercise restraint and refrained from any delinquent behavior - but was very close to being pushed to steal by the anti-theft measures..
definitely not the only case of this nature, but it definitely forces one to think about the varying approaches to security - forced bag checks and headaches vs. faith in man's good nature. i'm sure there's philosophy out there pertaining to these types of dilemmas
